Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a significant impact on the security industry in Latin America, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of security solutions. Here are some concrete examples of how AI is transforming – and will transform – this competitive industry in the region:
1. Smart Surveillance to detect REAL threats
Based on smart camera systems, AI is used to analyze images and videos from security cameras, automatically identifying suspicious patterns or anomalous behavior.
Thus, the detection of unusual movements or the identification of abandoned objects can alert security operators in real time, but AI also achieves the opposite: security devices such as those from cuid can filter out 90% of false alarms thanks to their advanced AI system.
False alarms are the main headache for users, to the point that many people even prefer to disarm their alarms, or cancel notifications, to avoid being bothered every time a harmless bird flies past their facades.
2. Predictive Analysis
The above point is achieved with an advanced data analysis and prediction system: AI analyzes large data sets to identify patterns and trends that could indicate potential threats, as well as discarding threats that are not real.
In other words, with predictive analysis, security companies can reduce costs and optimize results.
By adding a large amount of data regarding theft and robbery of property according to areas, times, types of property, etc., and key variables, computer systems capable of performing predictive analysis generate a reasoning model capable of predicting risk areas and the most vulnerable access points.
In this way, predictive analysis allows us to think about security proactively, helping to prevent crimes and allocate security resources more efficiently. Why leave guards and cameras in sectors that are not at risk, generating an enormous operational cost? In this sense, AI is revolutionizing the security industry like never before.
Let's keep in mind that most people do not have basic knowledge of electronic security, so, despite the wide range of cameras and security devices accessible with just one click, millions of Latin Americans end up buying poor quality devices and/or the wrong devices, which they then do not know how to configure and use.
That's why at cuid we created a predictive analysis system capable of projecting the risks of a property based on a few questions, allowing anyone to obtain, through a brief online security assessment , a report with personalized security recommendations in just minutes.
According to a recently published analysis by ReportLinker, the predictive analytics market is expected to jump from $10.5 billion in 2021 to over $28.1 billion by 2026: more and more companies are turning to advanced analytics to optimize their business management, and the security industry is no exception.
3. Facial recognition
In general, facial recognition has experienced significant advances in recent years, both in accuracy and processing speed: a clear example, within reach, is how cell phones and tablets from major brands are now able to recognize us instantly, avoiding the tediousness of passwords.
Currently, companies such as Megvi, Clear Secure, Any Vision or Sensory, Inc, Realeyes or the Spanish Herta Security have the advantage in this competitive and disruptive market, which not only monopolizes entry and exit to protected areas, but is already being used in some companies to record the entry and exit of personnel.
Facial and biometric recognition for entry into protected homes or businesses is no longer the stuff of science fiction: AI is now being used to improve authentication and access control by accurately identifying people through biometric techniques, such as facial recognition. This contributes to increased security in critical facilities with high traffic flow, such as companies or industrial facilities.
4. Robots with autonomous patrol:
The security robots we used to see in futuristic movies already exist in real life, and with some incredible features. In Latin America, there are still no security companies that offer them, and their cost is still very high in the United States (for example, the Spot robot costs more than USD 75,000) and the countries in Asia, Europe and Oceania that sell them, for the moment exclusively for industries.
These robots can patrol large areas, even underground, such as coal or copper mines, detect the slightest unwanted leak into a property, identify suspicious behavior and send alerts to security operators.
As with many technologies, the military industry has the edge when it comes to cutting-edge technology and innovation. Drones are a clear example of this: companies such as Elbit, Lockeed Martin or Turkish Aerospace Industries has been secretly working on creating all-purpose unmanned vehicles long before photography drones hit store shelves (we're talking several decades).
For example, AeroVironment, one of the largest suppliers of drones to the U.S. military, produced the first man-portable UAVs for the Navy in the mid-1980s, and has recently launched a new line of military drones, the Raven series, which are capable of flying using computer vision and GPS coordination.
However, neither the aforementioned robots, nor the drones, nor any available safety device are yet prepared to have total autonomy, so the training of operators and monitors is essential to make the most of these innovative technologies.
5. Resource optimization
AI can analyze real-time data, such as traffic and local events (much like Waze does to show you the best routes), to adjust patrol scheduling based on changing conditions, thereby optimizing resource use.
Thus, by filtering false alarms, security companies that have this technology can reduce their operating costs by up to 10x, by significantly limiting the unnecessary expenditure of response teams that respond to false alarms.
In addition, devices such as smart plugs allow you to optimize energy consumption, and UPSs extend the useful life of appliances, avoiding damage caused by power outages and voltage drops.
6. Technology Integration
Human management remains of irreplaceable value in the integration of different technologies and security devices, such as camera systems, motion sensors, sensors for CO and fire detection and smart plugs, so that security monitoring, access and exit to properties and energy savings go hand in hand in a fluid and integrated way.
In this sense, the cuid video monitoring system is a clear example of the perfect integration of these technologies with AI, combining predictive analysis and electronic surveillance with the criteria of experienced agents, to resolve many more alerts with greater speed and efficiency and less personnel involved.
In cuid, all these devices are integrated through an efficient Gateway that functions as an interconnection interface and link to a self-developed app that allows for all security insights to be obtained in real time.
AI is changing the security industry, so keep an eye out, because there are constant developments in this field and, if we don't keep track, these technologies can literally run us over.
